Baldurs Gate 3 Auntie Ethel Choices Locations And Quest Outcomes

Navigating the complex narrative paths in Baldur's Gate 3 often leads players into difficult moral dilemmas, especially when dealing with the green hag known as Auntie Ethel. Her storyline spans multiple acts and offers unique rewards, tough decisions, and lasting consequences for your party. Understanding her locations and the potential outcomes of each choice allows players to tailor their story according to their preferred roleplay style.
Where to Find Auntie Ethel Across the Acts
Players first encounter Auntie Ethel in Act One within the Emerald Grove, where she operates as a simple potion merchant. Shortly after, she relocates to her tea house nestled deep in the Sunlit Wetlands southwest of the crash site. Later in Act Three, she reappears in the lower city of Baldur's Gate hiding inside the Blushing Mermaid tavern under a clever disguise.
Key Choices in Act One and Their Consequences
When interacting with Auntie Ethel at her Riverside Teahouse, she will offer to remove the illithid tadpole in exchange for one of your eyes. Accepting her offer results in a permanent perception penalty, and she ultimately fails to remove the parasite due to magic tampering. Rejecting her or confronting her about Mayrina forces the hag to retreat into the ancient overgrown lair beneath her fireplace.
Bargaining or Defeating the Hag in Combat
During the final confrontation in her lair, reducing Ethel's health below fifteen hit points prompts her to bargain for her life. She offers a lock of her hair that grants a permanent plus one stat boost to any attribute. Through high skill checks, players can successfully demand both her stat-boosting hair and the release of Mayrina. Alternatively, slaying her outright frees the captives in her lair but sacrifices the statutory power reward.
The Wand and Mayrina's Fate
After resolving the fight with Ethel, players can find a magical wand named Bitter Divorce inside the hag's workshop. Presenting this wand to Mayrina allows you to resurrect her deceased husband as an undead creature. You can choose to hand the wand over to her or keep the resurrected minion for your own adventuring party.
